Course Details

Join HELVETII & World Class Training for an epic day of first aid skills in the outdoors!

With the beautiful scenery of the Lake District as the backdrop, this day walk combines a social hike with first aid content. It’s designed to help you feel more prepared when hiking — giving you the skills and confidence to act in case something goes wrong in the outdoors. You will come away with a World Class Training CPD certificate, lots of knowledge, and some new walking pals!

Whilst following a spectacular route and taking in the stunning sights of Aira Force waterfall, as a group you will learn how to deal with a number of conditions that could happen when hiking: from minor injuries like blisters and cuts, to crucial life saving skills such as CPR. This walk will be led by the HELVETII team alongside WCT trainer Mark Noble.

Come and connect with like-minded people, enjoy the great outdoors and learn some life saving skills!

The HELVETII community provides a space where anyone can step into the outdoors, meet new people, share honest experiences and grow. HELVETII trips are about more than reaching the summit. They’re about building connection, finding calm and rediscovering joy – one step at a time.

The details

Requirements: A good level of fitness and mobility is required for this circular walk — it will take place over hilly and uneven ground. Starting off at Aira Force Car Park by Ullswater, the walk will pass by the Aira Force waterfall, before ascending Gowbarrow Fell and returning to the starting point. If you are unsure, it’s advisable to check the route beforehand, preferably on the AllTrails app or website.

Certificate: On completion of the day you will be sent a World Class Training CPD certificate by email, as evidence of the skills and knowledge acquired on the day. Note that although you will come away with lots of knowledge and confidence, this does not replace a full first aid qualification as recognised by the Health & Safety Executive.

What to bring with you:

  •    – Be sure to pack suitable clothing for an outdoor environment, including sturdy footwear, waterproofs and warm layers — this event will run whatever the weather
  •    – Enough food and water to keep you going throughout the day
  •    – A notepad and pen can be helpful, but not essential — handy for jotting down useful information, and maybe doing a nice sketch of the view from Gowbarrow!

Duration: 9am – 5pm — the walk will start at 9am promptly. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start, for registration purposes and for time to get to know your fellow walkers!

Location: Aira Force, The Lake District

Meeting point: National Trust Aira Force Car Park (off the A592)

You’ll be required to sign a participation form before the hike begins. Participating in this event is at your own risk.
